Fitness Friday #25: Tips On Getting Your Grove Back!

Okay let’s just get down to it. I have been SUCKING at getting my workouts in. Some of you may remember a month or so ago I made an 8 week challenge for myself and it just wasn’t working. At the time I made that post I was in the process of planning a move and the beginning stages of everything. I was stressed and working out was the LAST thing on my mind. I was also always tired. Which is funny because if I had just worked out I would have had so much more energy. I stopped my Fitness Fridays because my heart wasn’t in it. I wanted to put out content I loved and I was riding the struggle bus when it came to working out and just needed a break.

Well this past weekend I just had it. I was tired and freaking moody and knew exactly the reason why! Lack of moving and taking care of my body! I can easily talk myself out of a workout and had been doing so! I felt stuck and I hate that feeling more than anything. When Monday rolled around I knew I needed to work out, and even with all that I started making excuses why I didn’t need to and why I had so much else to do. Instead, when I got home I worked out immediately.

And I did that every day this week.

Even though it’s only been one week of me working out every day and pushing myself I feel SO much better. Yes, I have TONS to do for our move but I get my workout in first and then tackle what else I have to do. On top of that I have been sleeping so much better and day after day have felt more motivated to work out and less likely to want to talk myself out of it.

I won’t be bringing back Fitness Friday weekly but will post one here and there when I have something I want to share! If there is anything you would like me to write about fitness wise leave me a comment below or send me an email!

I wanted to give some tips that really helped me get back to it this week. So let’s get to it!

1.Don’t give yourself the option, put on your clothes and just do it. Nothing else matters until that workout is over

I pretty much just ignored the shit out of myself. Every day when I got home I wouldn’t even think. I would march to my room, get changed and just GO. I had no other option. No stopping to sit for a second or look at my phone. I just went!

2. Find what works for you

For me, that was making my workouts realistic yet difficult. I couldn’t plan on working out for 2 hours because that would just deter me. I had other stuff I needed to do. I also couldn’t just say “Oh I’ll just go for a short walk” because I know I needed to really make the workout count and push myself. So I planned a 20-40 minute workout each day and PUSHED myself. I did either 2 mile runs or HIIT workouts and included ab and booty workouts with them to really get my sweat on.

3. Put on an awesome playlist and lose yourself in it

It’s no secret my stress levels have been a little higher lately and working out has made all the difference this week. I don’t have to worry about anything else during that time and when I’m done I’m much more relaxed and able to tackle things with a level head. Nick also likes this. Kaitlyn is much less snappy after working out 😉

4. Do the workouts you like

It’s been HOT. But one of my favorite workouts is running outside and I had not been doing so because of the heat. This week I just said to heck with it and ran anyways and it was amazing! I wore a hat to protect my face and made a route with a little more shade. I’m also planning to move these runs to the morning with motivation from Brittany of Kingdom of Sequins. Baby steps…

5. Take it one day at a time

I am totally the type to get excited and make a whole workout plan for the week and that’s just not working right now. Instead of motivating me it intimidates me. Instead I tried to not think about the week as a whole and just tackled each day and what I would do that day to get my workout in.

I would love to hear what you guys do to stay motivated! ! Hope you all have a great weekend! I’m off to a brew fest and can’t wait!

  1. Love this!!! I totally agree with all of these tips. Running is totally my favorite workout and I can only do it outside… I hate treadmills. With it being 900 degrees outside, running early is soooooo much better and I can actually breathe lol – Once you are up and running it feels amazing! AND your workout is over for the day… You got this! Have a great time at brew fest 🙂

    1. Thank you!!! The brew fest was amazing! Now I just need to run off all that beer ;). I’m really putting myself to the test this week because we have so much going on at night this week that I have no choice but to do morning workouts or I just won’t have time! Fingers crossed I do it! Haha

  3. So motivational! I am always struggling to get motivated to work out. I get bored easily. That’s exactly why I started my blog! its all about trying new work outs and implementing new things in my life. You are exactly right though! working out makes a huge difference in your quality of life. Props to finding your groove again!
